Easy Ways of Blocking Websites
Blocking access to some websites is essential especially for those with children or multiple users at home. Many organizations also prevent their employees from accessing some specific websites in order to maintain sanity in the organization and all this can be achieved easily by using any of the numerous ways. You can also avail a business computer support to make website access restriction possible. Following are the steps to block unwanted websites or even internet access. Some of the steps involve router modification, some involve modification in DNS settings and some involve application of other types of filters. If you apply these methods in the user accounts, users will not be able to access the blocked sites or even the internet and they will also not be able to slip back the changes made by you as an administrator. Before going to apply these restrictions, the first thing you need to do is to create the standard and restricted user accounts of the people using the computer. In case you have no idea of how to create a user account, you can take help of Microsoft technical support.
Block the sites by editing the Hosts file:
Editing the hosts file is the quickest and easiest way of blocking websites irrespective of what internet browser you are using. It works in all windows based computers. Go to My Computer C:WindowsSystem32etc folder. Here you will find the .hosts file. Open the file by using WordPad or notepad application. You will be presented with the information containing some IP addresses and some site names which will look something like this: 127.0.0.1 Localhost. If you want to block a website like abcd.com, add this entry just below the localhost entry such as:
127.0.0.1 Localhost 127.0.0.1 www.abcd.com
You can add many websites this way and once you have finished adding the sites which need to be blocked from accessing, close the file after saving. Now to check if the sites are blocked, open the web browser and type he website name you have just added in to the hosts file. This technique will certainly work because the moment a user tries to open a website which you have blocked, the browser will look for the entry of the IP address associated with the site in the hosts file and if it finds the entry, it will give an error message and the site will not open. However, this technique has some limitations like there are many websites which are not known to you as it is not possible to get a list of all such unwanted sites.
Allow the websites instead of blocking them:
This technique is the most accurate one as it uses content advisor in IE. Once you enable it you have the option of allowing or disallowing any site as per your choice. If there are children at your home, you can specify which sites they can visit and block all other sites. To achieve this using internet explorer, open the explorer and go to tools Internet Options content tab and enable the content advisor. Now you can click and allow the appropriate websites while blocking all other sites for that particular user. Here you need to set a password so that the user cannot undo the changes. This way you can set different website access permissions for different users of the computer.

Increase your privacy settings for MSN. Install the latest windows updates. Make sure you use a firewall. Basic security tips.
And apparently it only works across LAN. So basically just find whoever has it installed on their computer in your house and delete the program.

How To Remove The Fake Microsoft Security Essentials Virus
The Fake Microsoft Security Essentials virus is unfortunately hitting so many people's computers the past few months that it has been one of the most successful attempts at infecting people's computers. The reason for this is because that it's creators have spent the time and the effort to make it look as legitimate as possible and they had proven to be victorious at one point because their virus had infected over 5000 computers in 2 months. They did this via means of spam emailing, infecting websites, infecting links and sometimes hacking peoples computers. Once the infection has installed itself onto your computer its not long before it begins to take effects as you will be sure to spot a few things, which are very important to notice if you are going to remove the infection from your computer and gain control of your system back again.
The creators of the fake Microsoft Security Essentials virus have obviously worked at making the virus look as legitimate as possible and it has worked because so many people have fallen victim to the infection and many back accounts too. The way the virus works is to secretly gain access to your computer and install itself without you knowing and it does this by different ways, a few of them are mentioned above, which are:
-
Spam emails
-
Infected websites
-
Infected links
-
Computer hacking
-
People actually downloading the virus because of it's legitimate looks
Above are the main ways of how the fake Microsoft Security Essentials virus is able to gain access to your computer. Once the virus has gained access to your computer it is then able to get to work, and it does this by blocking the processes sent by the computer and so you will notice programs suddenly closing down and when you try to load the Internet for example you will find that you are unable to do it because the virus is blocking the necessary process and information from the registry to be able to complete the task.
Once the virus has taken hold of most of your computer you will then notice it will suddenly appear on your desktop and will look like it is scanning your computer and it will always without a shadow of a doubt find viruses, infections, trojans, malware or adware because they need to gain our trust so they show you fake results in order to lure you into a false sense of security. When the virus has stopped 'scanning' your computer it will then persuade you to purchase the full upgrade in order to remove the threats that it has supposedly found on your computer. DO NOT under any circumstances continue with this as your bank account will regret it and in some cases people's accounts have actually been emptied and the money is used to fund other criminal activities.
However in order to remove the fake Microsoft Security Essentials virus it is recommended that you use a program called Frontline Rogue Remover, which has been specifically designed to remove fake antivirus infections.
It is also highly recommended that you perform a completely scan of your computer's registry as your computer has gone under some radical changes, which means that the registry which is a virtual database full of highly sensitive hierarchical information crucial for the computers infrastructure may have been altered or damaged due to the virus and may cause your computer to experience some major errors and failures if not dealt with immediately.
