Is computer virus alert a trap?
Several times lately an alert window suddenly appears on my computer screen that says my computer has 12 viruses and trojans that are critical to remove. It is flashing red script everywhere. I close the window without clicking the remove button. When I run Microsoft security essentials it reports no threats. The address bar reads www.xptheavsjkl.com. Trap?, or legit?
Yes, it sounds like the anti-virus 2011 Trojan or one of its variations. In order to remove this Trojan, you need software like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware :
www.malwarebytes.org/products/
Install and update Malwarebytes. Run scan. Remove virus. Run again to make certain the virus is completely removed. If you cannot run in normal mode, shut down computer and start in safe mode. then run Malwarebyes. If this doesn't fix the computer, go to www.bleepingcomputer.com/ and ask for assistance. They will walk you through the repair.
Good Luck
