is there compatibility between iWork and Microsoft office?

Welll, I want to buy a tablet, but I am in doubt which to buy.
I always take my laptop with me to college, but it's heavy as I have to walk about 6 blocks,, that's why a tablet would be better for me. but, I need a tablet with a good Office to work with at least Word, Excel and Power Point, ah, and a PDF reader is a must!

I know that iWork is incredible, but if I choose the iPad 2, may I edit all my office documents with iWork and later send to my friends???

is it possible to convert iPad docs into Docx, PPTX and etc.?

if you are a student and use a tablet to study what's your tablet? iPad, iPad 2, Xoom, HP with WebOS or another tablet with Android???

Please, answer all my questions in details.

I thank all of you in advance!

Yes, you can import .doc into Pages and export to .doc / .pdf to share with people. If you adore MS Office you will find iWork on the iPad quite different. iWork on the Mac is great.
