PST Corrupted After Installing Outlook 2007 Updates
Outlook PST (Personal Storage Folder) is the local file stored on the client computer to store all e-mails for the application. But issues, like improper upgrade process, unexpected power failure, and network file sharing can bring corruption to the file. Consequently, the file may report file access errors or show abrupt behavior. To repair a corrupted Outlook data file (PST), the application provides a built-in tool, called Inbox Repair Tool. The tool can repair the damaged PST in few, not all, cases. But if the tool proves unable to fix the corruption, it is advised to opt for a powerful Microsoft Outlook Recovery utility.
For example, suppose you use Outlook 2007 and use a PST as your default e-mail delivery location. You install a Microsoft Outlook 2007 update to increase the performance and responsiveness of the application. The next time, when you start Outlook, it prompts an error that suggests that the file is corrupt. The error may also state to run Inbox Repair Tool to repair the file.
Cause
Outlook 2007 update has corrupted the default Outlook PST. This might occur if the upgrade process has been interrupted.
Solution
To solve the above issue of PST corruption, you need to run Inbox Repair Tool. The Scanpst.exe file is typically located in the given folder for Outlook 2007:
<disk drive>:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12
Or you can click Start | Find or Search and type 'Scanpst.exe' in the 'Search for files or folders named' box to search the file. Make sure that the view for hidden files and folders is enabled. Open the file and specify the corrupted PST file name and path to start repair.
Note: You are suggested to backup your PST before running the tool.
The Inbox Repair Tool does repair in limited number of cases and can fail. If this is the case, you need to use a PST Recovery utility. Such tools have high competency to repair and restore even a severely corrupted PST in any case of file corruption. Moreover, Microsoft Outlook Recovery tools are graphically rich with a simple GUI and easy installation.
