Microsoft Office not genuine?
Hello,
I bought a laptop in good faith and after installing the latest updates it said that my version of Microsoft Office is not genuine.
After researching the issue and looking for solutions, it basically just says that it is recommended that you use a genuine edition or Open Office, but it does not seem to have major consequences if you continue to use the counterfeit version.
But I am still worried. I did not know that it wasn't genuine. Can the seller be fined or will my access to the programmes like Word and Outlook be denied?
If I uninstall the whole counterfeit Microsoft Office, will that resolve the issue?
I really need help as I'm driving myself crazy and can't stop worrying about it.

Hopefully I can help you. There are 2 options/reasons for Offices 'odd' behaviour
a) The supplier of the laptop has used a pirated version of Office (how expensive was the laptop? Cheap or pricey? Where did you get it from?)
b) Microsoft is having one of its famous key spasms. It has given you a key which already belongs to another person, or you may have used a key which someone has seen (has anyone had access to your computer lately? Anyone that knows a lot about computers/hacking?)
First of all, go to the place where you bought the Laptop. Ask for a genuine software key. Tell them exactly what you told me. If they say no, or its out of warranty, then bad luck :/ . If they cant be contacted, its likely that they pirated it, and you are better off cracking it yourself (search for a key on the web, or request one from Microsoft.. if your lucky they might help you)
To answer your worries (or escalate them) Office will eventually crash and you wont be able to view emails or edit any files. Microsoft may try and contact you. If you aren't willing to download a crack or find a cracked key, just uninstall Office.
*NOTE* open office is a free office software which is TERRIBLE.
- Just go onto YouTube and search "How to get Microsoft Office Free" - Easy way out. Although I legitimately bought mine, its easy to get cracked versions... I just support office.
