Microsoft To Pave Way To Its Own Success
Apple taught everybody quite a simple lesson. Lots of apps at a user's disposal are a nice incentive for him or her to buy the smartphone gadget. Good sales of the gadget stimulate app developers' attention to the platform. Developers' interest, in its turn, ensures even more apps. So, it's all circular and quite reasonable. No wonder, other smartphone companies are striving to repeat Apple's success with the App Store creating their own imitations of the mobile store with a good incentive policy for developers based on a simple monetization process when every developer receives some money every time his or her app is downloaded.
Microsoft seems to be following its competitor's strategy when building a platform for WinPhone 7. It comes as no surprise that Microsoft tries to do its best to create splendid starting environment for the platform as it may well turn to be its latest chance to squeeze into the smartphone market. So far, anything the company has manufactured at the category, hasn't been any success including a failed attempt to launch Kin phones. Stone and Pebble had to be terminated 6 weeks after the release. At the moment the company does not have any place at the market at all, not even the position similar to the underdog Palm/ HP which is thought able to present a couple of trumps. The smartphone market trend is defined by Jobs' company, which is closely followed by the Android phones, saying nothing about the market share leader Blackberry which prefers to stay in the shadow.
Microsoft's main problem is that the company has come to the market quite late and it certainly takes time to become competitive. For example, despite all Android fans' claims that platform became competitive only last year after there appeared a range of Android phones popular with common customers such as Droid and Incredible. In addition, only Froyo release brought to the OS all the necessary functionalities which allowed for comparing the OS to the iPhone environment.
So, it will definitely take some time for Microsoft to get the necessary functionality though no doubt the company wants to burst into the market delivering all the latest advancements mobile computing is heading to, including constant connection, 4G, cloud services, touch interface, and much more. Though some people disappointed with the previous Microsoft's gadget are quite cautious when making forecasts about the company's upcoming gadget, the company itself is determined to pave its handset success.
A range of top mobile developers are rumored to be offered a chance to create apps for the new gadget. The company is going to provide them with everything: free tools, handsets and funding for the project. Moreover, if a developer fails to gain profits for the app it has created, Microsoft guarantees to cover their losses from its own bottomless pocket. Such a strategy is quite reasonable and may ensure the ultimate consumer interest and other developer's attention but whether it is enough to make a new device a success only time will tell.

Apple's Unforeseen Success with the iPhone App Store
I've been an iPhone user since the first generation of iPhone, and I still remember Microsoft executives laughing during an interview mocking the $500 launch price of the iPhone. They claimed no one would be willing to fork out that kind of cash for a phone. No one including Steve Jobs could've expected the iPhone to catch up the leading phone manufacturing companies at that time and completely evolutionize the mobile industry in the process. If I was given a choice to pick out one thing that made the iPhone what it is today, it would have to be the App Store. Of course the iOS UI was great and the Touch was basically flawless in comparison to other touch phones on the market during that time, but the App store and the multitude of apps available on it simple tipped the scale in Apple's favor.
Look at the domination of Sony in the PS2 era, it wasn't the hardware that made it the most selling console in that generation, but the sheer quality of the games line-up available for the console, apparently it still sells well in many countries across the globe. The free iPhone games, the free iphone apps and the tons of quality paid apps available on the App store is just staggering, the developers love it because Apple users are more vulnerable to spending on the App store than let's say an Android user. I still remember playing Pappyjump, an amazing free iPhone game which took advantage of Apple's Gyroscope and was a great time-killer.
It's simply very hard for other companies to catch up now, apart from Android which is a worthy competitor unlike Microsoft's Windows Phone or Nokia's Mobi OS who seem clueless and have failed miserably in spite of having huge backers. So, is this just a phase of good times for Apple or will it rule the mobile market for another good decade. Only time will tell, what's in store for Apple, but the mighty have fallen in the past by either getting casual or users just getting bored of what they have to offer.
