VMware users cast wary eye on Microsoft tools for virtualization

VMware customers attending VMworld is looking at software, Hyper-V virtualization from Microsoft, but they say that Microsoft falls a bit short and that would be problematic to start again after a significant investment in VMware.

Investments in VMware is not only money but also time and training continues to build the institutional knowledge of ITs most used platform for x86 virtualization.

I suppose we are in a VMware shop, so kind of stick with what we know, more than anything else, said Chris Bennett , VMware ESX administrator at Linklaters, a law firm in London.

This company is 80% of virtual servers from VMware, but recently the adoption of Hyper-V server virtualization project in small offices around the world. Using Hyper-V, free add-on to Windows Server, would have saved money. But the firm stuck with VMware rather than a branch of the project to avoid complications in the management of IT. The same problem was reported by Josh Gray, an engineer Aurora Bank in Denver. Aurora uses for its introduction of VMware server virtualization, but Gray says: Ive played around with Hyper-V, really short in the laboratory, Microsoft.

Gray says the connection to the storage of virtual machines requires further action in the Hyper-V, than it is in VMware, so that the process of managing a bit more trouble.
