Microsoft Hosted Exchange: A Lucrative IT Solution
A never-ending battle for most small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) is maintaining an adequate cash flow. Simply put: they are making money, but the rate at which it comes in is nearly parallel to the rate at which it goes out for expenses. This makes unexpected costs difficult to manage, especially if even just one or two clients' accounts become delinquent.
The two most obvious solutions are to either increase revenue or decrease expenses. Looking at the expenses, most businesses go directly to labor costs. However, a large portion of monthly costs can often be attributed to information technology (IT) software and management. Tools, processes and equipment related to things such as coding/programming, data communications and systems control fall into this category.
It's no secret that the Microsoft Exchange Server is an extensively used communications platform that boasts flexibility, reliable safeguarding, increased productivity and mobility. Microsoft Hosted Exchange was created as a cost-effective alternative for businesses that are striving to reduce IT expenses and in-house efforts. Using a hosted exchange solution eliminates the need for in-house systems configuration, hardware and software ordering and set-up.
Hosted exchange providers own, manage and operate the entire infrastructure required to run Microsoft Exchange. The only items needed in-house are the PCs for personnel and an Internet connection. Microsoft Hosted Exchange gives SMBs the benefit of having expert technical staff managing the technology 24x7, while also avoiding the investment associated with purchasing and managing on-site equipment or software.
Services are typically offered at a monthly or yearly rate, and allow for easy up/downgrades if your staff numbers or needs change. This flat, recurring expense allows SMBs to budget the communications costs and allocate them with total accuracy, rather than relying on numbers forecasted based on past events.
Additional features and benefits of Hosted Microsoft Exchange: Hosted Microsoft Exchange will vary depending on the service provider chosen. However, below are some elements to look for when shopping for a quality hosted exchange supplier.
- Collaboration: Keep a shared list of contacts; view others' calendars for easy scheduling; access public folders for centralized storage
- Mobility: Blackberry Messaging; Smartphone compatibility (e.g., iPhone, Android and Windows mobile); Microsoft ActiveSync availability
- Compliance: Retrieval, monitoring and audit tools for policy enforcement; case management tools; privacy, confidentiality and non-disclosure encryption
- Active Directory Synchronization: User account synchronization; address book and password change synchronizations
- Self Management: User-friendly administrative control panel; add or remove users as needed; create and manage mail services on your domain
- Anti Virus/Spam: Spam filtering; inbound and outbound virus blocking; Directory Harvest Attack (DHA) and DoS blocking; user-specific quarantines
Between the economy's spontaneous fluctuations and the growing complexity and risk of technological investments, now is the time for many SMBs to evaluate their expenditures. With Hosted Microsoft Exchange solutions SMBs have the ability to decrease IT expenses and resources, while expanding their communications capabilities and bandwidth. The value of switching to a hosted exchange provider is not just perceived; it's undeniable.

They also had a notice a few days ago about this.

Microsoft Dynamics GP in Retail Implementation Highlights
Microsoft Dynamics GP was earlier popular under the name Great Plains Dynamics. This Corporate ERP application has several flavors of Integrations with such POS and Store Management systems, as Microsoft RMS, Counterpoint, plus GP itself can open its Sales Order Processing transaction to B2C eCommerce shopping cart (such as Magento/PHP or ASP .Net Storefront) to enable and integrate web retail outlet. When you are thinking about adopting new Accounting and Warehouse Management application for the chain of retail stores, you are probably thinking about Barcoding technology (including new merchandize barcode labels printing, order fulfillments, merchandize replenishment and move from one store to another via barcode scanning directly on the warehouse floor). We are a little bit restricted by the format of this publication to give you full presentation, but we will give you highlights:
1. POS (Point Of Sale) or cash register application and Store management software. It is possible to open Dynamics GP Sales transaction for POS and barcode scanning, however it is probably rather something more suitable for special POS applications. In our opinion the best way is to have POS application from the same vendor, and in the case of Microsoft it is Microsoft Retail Management System (Microsoft RMS). The most convenient way to implement Dynamics GP and Microsoft RMS tandem is to have all the Sales, Purchases, Counts and Transfers between warehouses to be done in MS RMS and implement native integration from RMS to GP, which moves transactions on General Ledger level (daily sales) and Purchases to AP transactions (where payments and Financial reporting are in the realm of your Accounting system, here it is Dynamics GP). MS RMS Headquarters allows you to manage multiple stores from one central application, where each store synchronizes with central hub every night or at scheduled time. If you feel that your choice is rather Counterpoint for POS and Store purchases, the same strategy (daily sales import to GL and Purchases to AP) works with implementation standard Counterpoint integration to Great Plains
2. More advanced POS and Outlet management integration to Great Plains. In some situations, especially in the case of mid-size or large retail chain, you would prefer to control Purchasing, Inventory Quantities in each warehouse. Also we have heard the desire to print items barcode labels directly from Dynamics GP at the point of posting Purchase Receipt transactions. If this is something you are looking for, there is more advanced Microsoft RMS to GP integration on the level of Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing and Inventory Control modules in Great Plains, available from Alba Spectrum. Integration is bidirectional and if you move merchandise in RMS via Headquarters logic, it updates quantities in Dynamics GP Sites respectively. We also help you with Barcode labels printing via Crystal Reports or ReportWriter report with Barcode compliant font. Now about Warehouse Management System with Barcoding technology support
3. Warehouse Management System. Our WMS module opens Dynamics GP SOP Transaction with manual allocation type to barcode scanning on the warehouse floor, POP Purchase Receipt for WMS merchandise replenishment and Inventory Transfer and Adjustment transactions. WMS has client application, running directly on your barcode scanner as well as WMS Server, Windows computer on your network, communicating with Dynamics GP Server via ODBC connection
4. eCommerce Retail store. We recommend you to deploy existing ecommerce with proven ecommerce shopping cart, such as ASP .Net Storefront or Magento (if you prefer Linux and PHP). This approach is very efficient in B2C ecommerce scenarios. With ecommerce setup wizard you will be able to pick ecommerce shopping cart platform from drop down list of available options, default ecommerce site id (from where to allocate the items), SOP type with manual allocation (if you fulfill the orders via barcode scanning in WMS) or automatic allocation when the level of transactions is lower and WMS is not required
5. Merchandise replenishment via EDI (Electronic Document Interchange). If your merchandise suppliers encourages you to place purchase orders via EDI channels, we recommend you to extract newly created POs via precisely formatted or XML formatted SQL Stored Procedure, where extracted text (with EDI header, lines and trailer) or XML EDI files could be automatically emailed, placed on the EDI FTP channel or forwarded to the Supplier via http post
