Are you Vista-ready?

Windows Vista, Microsoft's new operating system, will be the successor to the current Windows XP, which was launched on Thursday, October 25, 2001. Microsoft is targeting Windows Vista availability for volume license customers in November 2006 and general availability in January 2007.

Windows Vista will have hundreds of new features. The graphical user interface will be updated and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new 'multimedia creation tools,' such as the current Windows Movie Maker. Also completely redesigned networking, audio, print and display 'sub-systems' - methods of completing tasks will be incorporated in Windows Vista.

The hardware requirements for a Vista Capable PC are a modern processor with a speed of at least 800 MHz, 512MB of system memory, and a graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. But your Vista PC also needs a graphics processor that can run Windows Aero, which is a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32 bits per pixel.

The question presents itself: Is your PC capable of running Windows Vista or should you buy a new one?

To give an answer to this question, Microsoft has created a beta application that will perform a scan of your computer to:
1) Determine if you can install and run the core experiences of Windows Vista;
2) Guide you in determining which edition of Windows Vista is right for you and whether your system is ready to take advantage of the advanced features that interest you;
3) Figure out whether the devices and software on your PC are ready to run with Windows Vista;

After downloading the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor BETA, you can install this Upgrade Advisor yourself, easily with a number of clicks.

An important notice:
Before you start the Upgrade Advisor, you have to plug in any USB or other attachable peripheral devices that are regularly used with your computer such as printers, scanners or external hard drives.

The Upgrade Advisor can do an optionally check for among others these features:
- Premium Photo, Music and Movie Experiences
- Watch and Record TV
- Work Anywhere

The Upgrade Advisor can be found on the Windows Vista Homepage: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/

How to Fix Windows Vista Error 0x8007005

So you have just encountered a Windows Vista error while copying files, and you don’t know how to fix it. Windows Vista error 0x8007005 can really cramp your style, since it prevents you from copying files to another computer or hard drive. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to fix this problem.

Resolving the Out of Memory Error

The out of memory error has bothered countless Vista users. This error is known to occur when a user is copying or moving a large number of files to an external hard drive or computer. Strangely, the error sometimes also creeps up when copying a small number of files. The worst part is that the error is not very noticeable. In fact, you might not notice that anything went wrong until you check the destination of the copied files.

If this error is interfering with your system, the following message will be displayed when you try to copy files:

"Error 0x80070052 Files cannot be found or do not exist."

Download the Hotfix

A kernel leak is responsible for creating this mess. Therefore, you’ll have to download the necessary hotfix. Try this:

  1. Open a web browser such as Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942435/en-us
  3. Download and install the hotfix.
  4. Restart your system.

This hotfix resolves the error for the vast majority of Vista users. If this doesn’t work, you can also try downloading and installing the latest Windows Vista Service Pack.

Microsoft did include an update in the Service Pack that also resolves this issue. You can find the latest Windows Vista Service Pack here.

Remember, you can always enable Automatic Updates to quickly obtain the Service Pack. Here’s how to turn on Automatic Updates:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select All Programs.
  3. Click Windows Update.
  4. Click Change Settings
  5. Select Automatic.
  6. Select the "Include recommended updates" checkbox.
  7. Click OK.

Updating the System and Cleaning the Registry for Quick Resolution

Automatic Updates will scan your system for necessary updates and then recommend the latest fixes for your computer.

Once you’ve resolved this problem, it’s a great idea to test your system’s memory to make sure everything is working correctly. Here’s how to do this:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Select Administrative Tools.
  4. Open Memory Diagnostic Tool.

The Memory Diagnostic Tool will run a test of your computer’s RAM to make sure your computer’s memory is functioning properly.

If none of the above methods work to fix this error, then you should acquire a registry cleaner.  A good registry cleaner will work to clear your registry of any corrupt and missing keys. Since the out of memory error is related to a root key registry function, cleaning your registry can help resolve this error.
