I want to avoid people reading my contacts or calendar.
If you keep it updated and don't go in and to the folder permissions and allow anyone to see them you should be ok.
Unless you are on a network and your connecting to an exchange server. You are at the mercy of your boss and network administrator at that point. You can create a Personal folder and move personal mail into that that noone else can see.
