Micro Focus earns Microsoft Technology Partner of the Year Award
Micro Focus has announced that the company has accepted the 2011 Microsoft Technology Partner of the Year Award in the Technology Innovation category recognizing the company's Visual COBOL R3 solution.
Held at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, the award was given to Micro Focus for its contribution of application modernization and application quality testing tools that enable the migration and reuse of mainframe applications on the Microsoft Application Platform, including Microsoft Azure.
Visual COBOL R3 is the first solution to translate the COBOL language directly to the Java Virtual Machine, giving developers the freedom to extend COBOL to the latest platforms using a variety of application environments. With over 220 billion lines of COBOL being used within today's enterprise, rewriting these COBOL applications to incorporate new technologies and platforms prove to be a costly and risky proposition. Microsoft's collaboration with Micro Focus' Visual COBOL R3 gives developers the freedom to extend COBOL to the latest platforms using a variety of application development environments, without having to rewrite each code.

Will the competition between Chrome and Firefox help to bump out Internet Explorer?
I have been looking through the blogs and Mozilla is already saying that Firefox 3.1 will be faster with its javascript engine than Chrome. I know Crome is just in beta.Will the competition take the focus off microsoft and have the two gaining market share or just fighting each other for the 25 of the market that internet explorer doesn't have?
Definitely. Come to think of it, the loss in the interest in IE had already started since Firefox started real innovations in web browsing, such as tabs. And if Google Chrome would be another better alternative for IE (including IE 8), there would come a time that IE would be obsolete. IE 8 really needs to step up big time, just to gain back users that switched to alternative browsers.
