Windows 7Guide- Understand Windows Live Photo Gallery
The left pane in Windows Live Photo Gallery displays a tree structure like the Folders list that enables you to display pictures by different criteria. To help you sort and search for pictures, you can add tags, ratings, and captions to pictures. The Find box is also there to help you. You can press the View button to change the icon thumbnail views, view a table of contents, or display groups and sorts.
Windows 7 provides you different ways to view photos. In a folder with pictures, you can turn on Extra Large Icons view to see a larger view of the pictures. You can use the slide show feature to display pictures in a full screen slide show. If you want to preview pictures or open a picture to edit, you can double-click the file icon to use the default program associated with the picture file type, or select the specific program--such as Paint, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Microsoft Office Document Imaging, or Microsoft Office Picture Manager--you want to use to make changes. Windows Live Photo Gallery doesn't come with windows 7 .

Follow the given instructions to View pictures in Windows Live Photo Gallery:
STEP 1. Click the Start button, navigate to All Programs, go to Windows Live, and then click Windows Live Photo Gallery. If prompted, Sign in.
STEP 2. Use the tree structure in the left pane to view the pictures:
• All photos and videos. Click a picture or video folder.
• Click a date to display media.
• Click a tag to display media.
• Click Add a new tag, type a tag name, and then press Enter.
STEP 3. Use the controls at the bottom of the window to change the display size, view details, play slide show,
delete pictures, and rotate pictures.
Adding Tags, Ratings, or Captions:
STEP 1. Click the Start button, navigate to All Programs, go to Windows Live, and then click Windows Live Photo Gallery. If prompted, Sign in.
STEP 2. In Windows Live Photo Gallery, choose the picture you want to add tags, a rating, or a caption.
STEP 3. Click the Info button on the toolbar.
STEP 4.In order to add, click a tag, type the tag you want, and then press Enter.
STEP 5.To add a rating, click the rating star you want.
STEP 6.To add a caption, click Add caption, type the caption you want, and then press Enter.
STEP 7. When you're finished, click the Close button in the Info pane.

View And Edit RAW Image Files In Windows Live Photo Gallery
The DSLR cameras have the ability to take snaps in their proprietary RAW format which is, unlike other image formats, like, JPG, PNG, etc., unprocessed and uncompressed image files ready to be processed by users. Since DSLR cameras are built to take higher quality snaps with actual depth of objects being in focus, allow precise previewing of framing close to exposure while catering to host of other image quality characteristics, RAW format provides the best platform to view such small yet highly preferred image quality elements.
If you own a DSLR camera and don't want to use third-party RAW image editor to view, edit and process them, you will be glad to know that Windows Live Photo Gallery now supports RAW image format as well. Recently Windows Live official dev team released RAW image viewer and editor codec pack which supports RAW formats of more than 120 camera manufacturers, including, Canon, Nikon, Epson, Panasonic, Olympus and lot more.
Windows Live Photo Gallery is a photo management and photo sharing application released as a part of Microsoft'sWindows Live initiative. It is an upgraded version of Windows Photo Gallery, which is a part of Windows Vista.
Windows Live Photo Gallery provides management, tagging, and searching capabilities for digital photos. It provides an image viewer that can replace the default OS image viewer, and a photo import tool that can be used to acquire photos from a camera or other removable media.
Windows Live Photo Gallery allows sharing of photos by uploading them to Windows Live Photos and Flickr. It also has the ability to upload to other photo sharing sites such as Facebook. Windows Live Photo Gallery is also required for downloading full resolution photos and albums from Windows Live Spaces. It can publish videos to Soapbox on MSN Video. The ability to view animated GIF images is notably absent. Instead, when viewed, it displays every frame of an animated gif which may come in handy if a user wanted only a frame. In Windows Live Essentials 2009, the icons on the toolbar were removed.
The application is part of the Windows Live Essentials suite. Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 (as part of Windows Live Essentials 2011) was released to the public on September 30, 2010, and features new additions such as facial recognition, Photo Fuse, geotagging, batch people tagging, blemish remover and noise reduction.
Instead of allowing you to directly tweak with your RAW image files, it creates RAW image copies to edit them. It automatically transforms RAW file copies into JPEG-XR (format reserved for high definition images) format to keep the image quality intact. Once converted, you can easily fine tune copies of RAW images using different Windows Live Gallery editing effects. Apart from RAW image format, this new codec pack supports editing many other photo formats as well, such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, etc.
