A Look At Game Related Articles Aka [Insert Highly Controversial Title]

We all have read one, haven't we? One of those articles that come up in whatever site you are browsing, which have a controversial title and deal with current events/products. Let's take the recent Killzone 2 debacle as example. I really don't care about the articles written before the game came out, as they are bound to be highly speculative, but even after it actually came out(2 weeks after the demo and months after the beta) it was still receiving hate articles when i think every decent gamer, regardless of any feelings of personal taste or brand loyalty, can say that IT IS A GOOD GAME. And it's not only Killzone 2, it happened to all major releases last year as well(granted, probably not nearly as much); such as Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet and so on. Notice anything in that list? Yeah, they are all exclusives!

So what does that tells us? Hey it's no big secret, a war is going on between the PS3 and the Xbox 360; and that's reflected on the articles written. One can compare multiplatform games, as sites such as gametrailers.com can't get enough of, but the real deal is in the exclusives. At the end of the day, the exclusive games are the ones that can tilt the balance one way or the other. That's why they are are often quite popular with BOTH crowds, as they are expectant not only of their consoles performance but the competitiors' as well.

The writers take avantaje of that by writing articles either praising or ditching and incredibly some times both, in order to gather attention from their audience; but you know what the best part is? That no mater whatever highly delusional crap they are writing and how people even know that's the sole reason why they wrote that particular article, they STILL RECEIVE THE ATTENTION. You know that as the saying goes, there's no accounting or disputing for taste; but when someone claims the earth is flat, that's bound to receive attention, regardless if it's positive or negative.

Do they all write these articles solely for "attention"? No of course not, money and brand loyalty are involved as well! ;) But i think the real motivation is simply that ATTENTION. But can we call these articles expressions of journalism? After all they are not objective and don't really bring anything to the community ... My opinion is that these articles give us exactly what we want: controversy, speculation and discussions on the subject of taste. They are written simply because we want them to be written. Therefore expect hate, crap, suck articles and the sort when browsing for info on the next big exclusive hit; regardless of which console it's for.

When all is said and done, we gamers just want play and be entertained; that's what we look in a game, that and that' its worth whatever money we paid for it. These articles don't help us with any of this, they neither give us an unbiased fact based description on a game (to see if we would like it or not) nor an in depth review so that we can justify to ourselves the 60 bucks coming out of our pockets for it. But as much as I wished them gone, as long as fanboys thrive and these articles receive the attention they are looking for, i am affraid they are here to stay.

is there a website or blogsite just for writers not journals to submit their stories or fan fiction?

Writing is my favorite hobby. I"m looking for a website or blogsite where I can post my stories. I know there are millions of blogsites like blogster and etc. But i'm curious if there is a site where its just writers but open to everyone to sign on and write their stories. Kindof like a microsoft word online that you can submit and others can read and allows you to save drafts you are in the middle of working on.

any help??

why not make your own site? you can collect add revenue. content is gold.

if you make a fairly successfull site you can probably get like $10 to $20 a day from it.

joomla lets you make sites, and wordpres for blogs i believe, but they are just template based.

The Importance Of Improving Your Writing Skills

There could be many reasons that you want to improve your writing skills.  It's a good idea to think about your goals before you sign up for a course.  But, there are some basics that every writer needs.

An understanding of the English language is essential.  The use of good grammar and correct punctuation allows your readers to enjoy reading what you write, without becoming distracted.  A number of online crash courses in English punctuation and grammar are available.  Some are even free.

Being able to spell is also important.  Microsoft Word and other tools make that easier for you.  If you have an idea of how a word is spelled, Microsoft Word will provide suggested spellings in case you are incorrect.

A thesaurus and dictionary were, at one time, essential tools for the writer.  Our computers have all but taken the place of those books.  In case you are a beginning writer, a thesaurus lists words that are synonymous or have similar meanings.  Using different words helps prevent you from becoming redundant or repetitive.

Once you have the basics, there are classes designed specifically for certain goals.  For example, if you are interested in writing fiction, poetry or memoirs, you might want to take a creative writing course.

If you want to improve your writing skills because you are interested in becoming a reporter, then you need a journalism class.  The journalistic style of writing is quite different from the creative style.

Journalists have strict rules to follow.  Their use of adjectives and adverbs is limited.  Although things have changed somewhat in recent years, journalists are supposed to be unbiased, unless the piece is intended for an editorial column.

If you are a business owner, entrepreneur or marketer, copywriting might be your goal.  Copywriting is the idea of using words to encourage the reader to take some kind of action.  In order to improve your writing skills in this area, you can take classes or simply start reading ads or sales letters.

Because of internet marketing, many copywriters learn the basics of organic search engine optimization, too.  Search engine optimization increases the chances that your copy will be read or that your target market will see the articles that you write.

No matter what kind of things you intend to write, none of the courses are a waste of time.  The more you know and the more that you practice, the more your writing skills will improve.
