Supporting Microsoft Dynamics Gp: Knowing Your Options

Microsoft Dynamics GP was also formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics, eEnteprise (its predecessor Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows and Mac was different in its business logic, however you can still recognize some familiarity, so it might be natural to migrate from GPA to Dynamics GP).  Corporate ERP implementation and its following support are different in their core requirements, so you have to make your homework to decide if you would like your original Dynamics GP implementation partner to continue your ongoing Great Plains support.  Accounting system implementation typically requires proficiency in two disciplines: ERP functional consulting and ERP technology (programming, consulting, troubleshooting, data conversion, customization, integration, reporting, etc.).  Let's try to come through typical Corporate ERP partner selection recommendations with emphasis on Microsoft Dynamics GP:

1. Corporate ERP Selection Phase.  Here you have to pick the application which fits your industry and suggested business requirements (80% fit would be good pick, we recommend you to be conservative and do not over-trust ERP sales people who are overpromising).  If you are generic business with simple AR, AP, GL, Payroll (if any) and reasonably straight forward Inventory management expectations - probably every mid-market ERP application would qualify.  If this is your situation, we recommend you to dig deeper and try to speculate about future requirements (Barcoding and Warehouse Management automation, eCommerce, EDI integrations, industry compliance reporting, cross platform integration: Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server, Lotus Notes Domino, etc.).  If you make a brain storm internally with your ERP selection decision making team - the final result should be more reliable to be success

2. Corporate ERP implementation phase.  Here you should expect highest level of your IT and ERP internal implementation team involvement.  We do not want to overemphasize XX century business consulting theories, where team spirit, business processes redesign were iconized.  Accounting system implementation phase typically requires your Corporate ERP consultant to be familiar with your business processes and be very efficient in user training.  Regarding Dynamics GP implementation specifics, your should expect your consultant to be very good in such financial reporting tools as FRX Reporting, Dynamics GP Report Writer (to design perfect SOP Invoice form with your Corporate Logo).  You should also expect reasonable familiarity with GP Integration Manager to secure GL Chart of Accounts migration, GL beginning period balances transfer (plus limited migration goals for Customers, Vendors and some historical transaction)

3. Corporate ERP Support Phase.  Here you may decide to pursue one of the long term strategies and Corporate ERP developing goals: Electronic Document Interchange (abbreviated as EDI) integration, Great Plains Customization (typically programmed in Microsoft Dexterity, eConnect or Extender).  At this phase generic support is typically less challenging (batch recovery, repairing failed AP or AR posting trails, Integration Manager integration errors understanding and work around, printing 1099 or W2 forms, advanced FRX reports, including reporting trees techniques and consolidated Balance Sheet, P&L, Statement of Cash Flow).  Again, you may be too optimistic to expect your initial Dynamics GP Partner to be proficient in GP modifications, programming, advanced integrations and reporting

4. Local versus remote support.  Modern remote support technologies, such as Web Sessions, free phone conferences (skype, for example), make remote support very efficient.  Of course - you cannot shake your remote Dynamics GP consultant hand, but maybe this is something you may consider to sacrifice in order to get quasi real time support (where remote consultant could call our or web conference you in virtually in few minutes from the request, comparing to local support delay - your local consultant should schedule visit onsite and drive out to your location).  Obviously you should make your final decision, but in our opinion, there is very little reasoning for sticking to local support, especially when you have challenging goals for your Corporate ERP development

5. Complicated Cases.  We saw numerous scenarios, when Customer tried to over trust local Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner, especially in complex Great Plains customization, reporting, data conversion, ecommerce programming cases.  Again, you are in the free Corporate ERP consulting market, and your local partner might be specializing in initial ERP licenses sales, and initial implementation.  If you are challenging your local partner to do complex customization for Microsoft Dynamics GP - your provider might have to appeal to nationwide Dynamics GP Dexterity Partners

6. Microsoft Dynamics GP VAR of record with Microsoft Business Solutions.  Mid-size Corporate ERP application requires years of experience and dedication (typically verified through Certification exams).  MBS requires you to be with one Dynamics GP partner at the time.  Technically - you may establish the tender and pick the best candidate for the job.  But, there is only one Dynamics GP Partner, who can see your records and broke for you in front of Microsoft Business Solutions

what if I lost my windows 7 cd and case?

Hi everyone, I recently purchased an original windows 7 professional and had it installed in the pc of my small restaurant. (I use the PC as a free web browser for waiting customers). I already installed and activated my windows and have attached the certificate of authenticity to the CPU. Unfortunately, I accidentally lost my original cd with its case when I disposed all of my old unused cd's. Now my question is, if Microsoft anti-piracy team searched my shop will I be in trouble? or what else will I need to worry about? (other than needing to reformat my unit and needing the CD) please help me guys as I may be having sleepless nights thinking about this.. Any answer will be pretty much appreciated. thanks :)

The COA (certificate of authenticity) is all you need.Even without they can tell if your OS is genuine

"Scobelizer" AKA Robert Scoble, Former Microsoft Employee Got "Scobled" on Facebook!

I got an opportunity between multi tasking today on and offline to slide on Mr. Robert Scoble's page on Facebook. Robert Scoble, aka Scobleizer, was originally hired in the beginning by Microsoft as a blogger. So Robby is NOT new to the blogosphere. As a matter of fact, I go by his blog online every now and then to see what his gums are flapping about tech wise. Now, being that Robert has almost five thousand friends on Facebook, it leaves the mind to ponder. Did he employ a sophisticated technique using a social scripting crawler, trying to remain under radar? Maybe or maybe not. I'm not saying he's guilty of anything. Somebody may have potentially hated on him, due to the fact that he has a very high profile array of educated friends who are in high places, such as his old pals from Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Harvard Grads and more. I did see those kind of folk on his friends list on Facebook. I will say that is certainly a "good look" on his behalf. His starting lineup of Facebook friends definitely makes his social media networking game look "A list".

Now, if you've never heard of him, like I said previously, he was hired by Microsoft in the beginning as a blogger. Scobleizer is like Jay-Z. Before inducted into the professional game his niche talent was organic, meaning he was a natural at what he was doing in the beginning, as well as up to now. Microsoft hired Scoble to blog about the company in the hope that doing so would reduce the hostility the company engenders in the geek community. Through his blogging for Microsoft as an employee, he had helped to reduce the negative image people saw Microsoft as, in hopes of keeping the internet community constantly tuned into Microsoft, as well as the outside world. That was his humble beginning into celebrity stardom as a A-List blogger today.

Scoble ceased fire from blogging for Microsoft in 2006, this man had the game on lock online, in terms of now driving personal traffic to his personal WordPress blog. His posts are read every once in a blue moon. By far, I give respect and credit to this man for not only using his brains and capitalizing off of being a known authority blogger through being a former employee of Microsoft, but he's also very informative on keeping up to the latest tech trends on every new social media startup. Every time one starts up (like every week a new social site emerges online out of nowhere), he's blogging on it. Scoble is very technically intelligent. But, some of his intelligence I seriously question.

After leaving Microsoft, he moved onto pursuing greener pastures. His next employment move, as reported by many silicon valley bloggers in the blogosphere is onto PodTech. He relocated from Seattle, Washington, to Silicon Valley. Parting ways with Gates, Robert Scoble expressed hostility. Microsoft has benefitted from the financial fruit of his blogging efforts in amassing millions of dollars from his blogging efforts, compliments of Scoble retaining a positive light for Microsoft, where he once worked tirelessly.

The thing I am wondering is why did he move onto working for someone else, when by 2006, you had your own blog domain and a loyal following. Additionally, he sounds positively content with working for someone else, while his domain Scobleizer.com advertises a Google Page Rank of 7. Additionally, his Alexa overall traffic rank for that domain is 18,465, which ranks alone in The United States 3,961. Scobleizer definitely has computers putin in the blogosphere! In his Scobleizer blog, he's also an affiliate of Amazon.com. My mind is still failing to register why he's working at another company, when he could be sitting at home or running his own venture on that domain, just making a fruit of a killing in affiliate marketing alone! He doesn't have any Google ads on there. I guess he might sincerely be against them. That I can't confirm or deny, nor speak for that man as to how he feel about "Ads by Google". With a Page Rank of 7 in Google for a personal domain, this means he definitely gets over 1 million visitors a month alone, from organic search alone.

Back to the facebook thing. Scoble was an early bird to being among one of the first Facebook users, when Zuckerberg was graduating from his infancy as a tech startup from his college dormitory room. Zuckerberg was getting that gUaP up in silence I say...lol The maximum allowed friend capacity on Facebook, if I am correct to this very day is 5,000. Allegedly, it's said that Robert Scoble hath made numerous attempts to override the system in getting his way on acquiring more than the maximum number allowed friends on Facebook. Zuckerberg's customer service team helped Scoble pump his brakes and put their foot in Scoble's ASS, by disabling his account. Now, the entire world knows that Scobleizer's Facebook account is DISABLED. But, before it was disabled, it's suspected that through his relationship with a company online named Plaxo, allegedly he used a script someone said (NOT me) they passed to him in manipulating certain features of The Facebook site.
