HTC Cell Phones: A Brief, Successful History

High Tech Computer Corporation, or HTC Corporation, is the maker of HTC Cell Phones. Unlike Verizon Cell Phones which are made in the United States, these devices are manufactured in Taiwan. HTC Cell Phones was founded in May of 1997 strictly as an outsourcing company. As of today it is clearly manufacturing it own products as well as working with several partners.

Unlike Verizon Cell Phones a company that only uses a CDMA format on their phones, though in their fourth generation phones they are steering into new technologies, HTC Cell Phones is a member of the Open Hand Alliance. The Open Hand Alliance allows HTC to conform to standards that allow the open source Android operating system to run on its own hardware. In fact, the HTC Dream, also known as the T-Mobile G1, was the first mobile device on the market that used the Android mobile device platform. A variation by Verizon Cell Phones was released a year later.

The current chairwoman of the company is Cher Wang, the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Taiwan, Wang Yung-ching. She is also the current chair of the VIA Technologies, a main division of High Tech Computer Corporation. The current president of the company is Peter Chou.

The company has recently experienced tremendous growth due to the fact Microsoft chose HTC as the hardware platform development partner for the Windows Mobile operating system. In 2005 the sales revenue of the company topped $2.2 Billion and Business Week listed HTC as the fastest growing tech company. That was a 102% increase from the previous year! The company currently runs a small design firm out of Seattle, Washington where they design their own interfaces for each phone.

Currently one can find HTC phones under a slew of brand names. Those include HTC, Dopod, a subsidiary company of HTC as well as Qtek. They are also commonly rebranded by big name carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Orange, Sprint, Nextel and Vodafone, among others.

High Tech Computer Corporation went from an outsourcing company and turned into a popular and innovative company cell phone maker. Between being chosen by Microsoft to launch the Windows Mobile operating system to the rebranding by the biggest name on the mobile market, HTC has clearly undergone a phenomenal change. When one takes into account that this transformation came during the companies short, 12 year history, the company itself becomes that much more impressive.

Is graduating from an Ivy League college really worth the stress and tuition?

So I've been wondering this for a while now. It seems that the only reason most people who want to attend the Ivies is just for the name and prestige, but is it really worth the $50,000 a year tuition and all the added stress? A friend of mine recently got accepted into Harvard and she can't be happier. I personally know 2 people who had graduated from an Ivy: my cousin from Dartmouth who's now working for microsoft, and my ap history teacher from Princeton. Until recently, I always had this image of ivy graduates as being super successful doctors, lawyers, etc...
So back to my question. Does an Ivy education really make that much of a difference on someones career success? Compared to other good, non-Ivy colleges? How about compared to state colleges?

It depends on the motivation and will of the student- it's what you bring to the school and what you get out of it, not what the school does for you.

Career wise, the elite and top rank the school name brings does give someone an idea of how qualified a person is and how well they can do a job.

Clear Computer History

 

Many PC users believe that if they clear their computer history and close their browser, the trails of whatever sites they have surfed will disappear forever. However, this is not always true. In fact, a lot of such information stays back on the hard-drives. Unless we know the exact location where such information lay hidden, they could stay in the system and may act as a potential threat to our privacy by disclosing the browsing habits. Just imagine what will happen if your spouse, boss, kids or a friend becomes curious to know what you have been doing online, the websites that you have visited, the music that you have listened to or the movies that you have watched. It will not be hard for all these people to use some software or dig out the required information manually from your PC.

To protect your online browsing habits from falling into the wrong hands or to prevent your privacy from being compromised, you should clear computer history. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can view your browsing history by selecting "Tools" menu followed by choosing the tab marked "Internet Options". Next, click the button labeled "Settings" and click the "View Files" button after that.

Web surfers using Microsoft Internet Explorer can clear computer history by following these steps:

• IE 6 and 7 users can delete their history files by choosing the "Tools" menu, "Internet Options", and then selecting the "Delete" or "Delete Files" button. Web surfers can also click the "Advanced" tab, go to the "Security" section and check the tab marked "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" to erase their computer history.
• Web surfers using IE 4 on an Apple Macintosh can clear computer history by clicking these tabs in succession-"Hard Drive" icon, "System", "Preferences" and "Explorer". Finally, they should move the history file into the trash folder.
• Web surfers using IE 3 can delete their browsing history by selecting the "View" menu, going to "Options" from there, open the tab marked "Advanced", click the "Settings" tab, and then finally select the "Empty Folder" button.

 

Mozilla Firefox users can clear computer history by clicking in succession the following: "Tools" menu, "Options" tab, the "Privacy" button, and then click the "Clear Now" or "Clear" button listed under "History" tab. Alternatively, these users can also press three keys marked Ctrl, Shift and Delete so that the Clear Data Window opens. From there, they can check the relevant boxes to clear some specific browsing history or delete the saved Internet history totally.

For Netscape users, history files can be deleted by clicking the menu marked "Edit" and then selecting "Preferences", "History", and finally clicking the "Clear History" button.

Opera users can clear computer history by clicking the "File" menu at first and then selecting "Preferences" and "History" in succession. After that, the button marked "Empty now" should be clicked. In addition to this, Opera users can also check "Empty on exit" if they want their browsing history to be deleted every time they exit their browser.
