How to resolve 'database needs to be repaired' error in Access

Using Microsoft Access in a multi-user environment can be a tricky and jolting task. A developer needs to take care of various issues which might crop up if users try to modify the same data or quit unexpectedly. All these and similar activities can pave way for major issues including corruption and data inaccessibility. If an Access database shows symptoms of corruption, then it is required of you to use Compact and Repair utility to fix errors. If this utility fails to rectify the error-laden Access database file and you are struggling to access the vital information stored in an Access database, then you must switch to a clean and updated backup copy. In absence of a usable backup, you have an option to successfully repair corrupt or damaged Access database by using a reliable Access repair software.

Let's consider a scenario, wherein, you have shared an important Access database file over a network. On one instance, when you attempt to open it to extract some information, you might get stunned to receive the following error message:

The database 'filename.mdb' needs to be repaired or isn't a database file.

You or another user may have unexpectedly quit Microsoft Office Access while a Microsoft Office Access database was open.

Do you want Microsoft Office Access to attempt to repair the database?

If you click Yes to allow Access to repair the database, you might stumble upon another issue.

When Access tries to repair the affected database, you may encounter yet another error message (given below), which is a clear indication that the repair process did not succeed in eliminating the errors.

"Unrecognized database format 'filename.mdb'"

Cause
The above errors suggest that the Access Jet engine could read the basic information related to the  structure of the affected database, but found some sort of corruption either in the table's data or definitions. The second message was displayed as Access could not repair the table definitions.

The corruption could creep in if users do not follow correct practice to quit or close Microsoft Access application.

Resolution
Since MS Access could not perform Access database repair task, it becomes imperative to download and use a third-party software.

Access repair 2010 software are professional and easy-to-use solutions which assist you in repairing corrupt or damaged Access databases without being dependent on a technician.

Can i use Microsoft Access as back end to build a vb multi user application?

The database will be accessed and updated by about 15 users at a time. I dont have or know how to use sql server or oracle

Yeah, you can put Access on a server and use it as a backend...it's not a GOOD solution by any means, unless you're using a simple, rudimentary application. In truth, it's better to invest the money. Like I said though, you don't have to.

Access development facilitates smoother information access

Access development simply means the developing of a software tool that enables access to database of different sorts. Any business is bound to create some information and data at a given point of time. These information and data are managed in such a format that it facilitates recalling them for adding, deleting and modifying whenever the need is felt. Moreover the internet has become the ultimate repository of all information. There is perhaps hardly a thing about which internet has no answer. In such an age of information dissemination through cyber means, the world of computers has necessitated developing of the software that allows information access without much hassle and interference. It is widely used for more accuracy, efficiency and time saving purposes. The bottom-line is that such a development plan undertaken by the business entities signifies their effort at aligning itself to tools and portals that allows greater access to information.

Database is the bedrock of any business activity today. It calls for database management systems which arrange them into such different formats that those can be accessed easily and simultaneously by multiple users. This trend has given a tremendous rise to database driven web applications in recent times. The software programmers are beset with the task of choosing the right scripts from the numerous programming languages as ASP.NET, PHP, Perl, JSP, and Cold Fusion. Any of these computer programming languages plays a key role in the development of desired web applications software for the respective needs of the customers. It is very crucial in determining how your business can profit from its ability to perform multiple tasks.

The software developers find Microsoft Access Database quite workable in developing application software. It is a relational database running under Microsoft Windows. Users go overboard in praise of the software and most call it the best desktop database system. It has many functional dynamics apart from its low price in comparison to other market players. This can be accessed by multi users simultaneously and it is scalable. You can integrate this to Microsoft office while the maintenance cost of the product will not drain your pocket too.
