Dynamics GP Point of Sale Extensions

Microsoft Dynamics GP, or how it was known historically – Great Plains Dynamics doesn't have native support for such POS devices as barcode laser scanners, signature capturing and credit card processing devices.  Dynamics GP by its nature is Corporate ERP application, where you see such functionalities covered as General Ledger, Inventory Management, Sales, Purchasing, Payroll, etc.  Point of Sale support requires either dedicated Retail Management application (we will review Microsoft RMS and Counterpoint as the options), or it requires extension for one or several of Dynamics GP Sales Order Processing screens to be opened for POS devices (there are several add-ons available through Dynamics GP ISV channel, or you can do it with moderate custom programming).  Let's review the paragraphs:

1. Dynamics GP and external Retail system.  You should review the integrations between the two, as the functionalities in such Retail applications as Microsoft RMS, Counterpoint overlap with the functionality realm in Dynamics GP.  For example, all three systems allow you to do merchandise purchasing and receipts (with the option to print barcode labels at that point), inventory adjustments, moves between the stores and even do Sales transactions (where Dynamics GP doesn't directly support POS devices in native version, but SOP Transaction form in GP gives you comparable to POS transaction functionality, assuming that your POS clerk is trained to enter invoice, items, quantities, discounts and customer payment).  The advantages of having the records (POS transactions, Purchase Receipts, Inventory Adjustments and Transfers) integrated to Dynamics GP – are better and more flexible reporting (combining financial info with sales items and quantities, etc.), ability to incorporate retail stores on several Retail Application platforms (in the case when you are expanding, especially in such business model, as restaurants network, country deli stores).  However, maybe these and other advantages do not give you real value of Retail application to be synchronized with Dynamics GP Distribution modules.  In this case, you can simply deploy standard integration from Microsoft RMS to Dynamics GP (Microsoft Dexterity codes chunk), which moves POS transactions directly to GL and Purchase Receipts into AP module (where you can cut checks and mail them to your suppliers).  The same is possible if you are deploying Counterpoint at POS – it exports AP and GL transactions; Counterpoint exports them in the CSV text files and you should deploy Dynamics GP Integration Manager to integrate these files to General Ledger and Payable Management modules respectively

2. Now, let's assume that your POS requirements are very simple and you do not need (or feel that you do not have to) to implement professional POS and Store Management System.  Instead you would simply like to open GP Sales Order Processing form for POS transaction and Credit/Debit Card, Cash or Check payment.  If you really have no concerns about such typical retail features as items on sale with percent discount (day from – day to, rounded to nearest 99 cents), manufacturer discount coupons and your average POS transaction requires Sales clerk to be really retail consultant (where each one spends up to 30 minutes, listening the customer and suggesting appropriate items to be selected into shopping cart).  In this scenario, you may simply install Dynamics GP user workstation at each cash register (Microsoft Windows computer), attach inexpensive USB barcode scanner, signature capture and credit card processing device (this combination has numerous and really inexpensive Dynamics GP Add-ons, enabling CC processing) and train your cashiers how to compile Invoice in SOP transaction entry screen.  If you think that your POS transaction volume might be approaching ten or more per hour per cash register, we recommend you such POS add-ons for Great Plains as Compass, please, see their website for further info

3. Custom Microsoft Dexterity programming to enable Dynamics GP for simple POS.  As you might be aware – existing Dynamics GO ISV add-ons, including the opens dedicated to POS are coded in so called Great Plains Dexterity.  Commercial product, coded in Dex should support all or the majority of POS devices and barcode scanners.  Naturally, that overall compatibility drives the price for the POS add-ons up.  In your case you may have only one or few models of Symbol scanner and Infogenics credit card processing devices.  If you have only few devices in us and to be supported in the POS extension, you might get POS extension cheaper via programming in in Dexterity directly

How do you add Microsoft Points using a debit card?

I tried using my debit card info when adding a payment option but XBOX 360 wouldn't authorize it. Do they only accept credit cards? What's the deal?

Works fine with me, i have a Debit card, i just put in my details and was able to start purchasing stuff straight away, im in the UK but i dont think that has anything to do with it, make sure all your details are correct, and try going to Microsoft Billing instead of doing it on your console and sign in with the email attached to your Gamertag and go to add another payment option and put your card details in and save, if it works the option to pay with that card should be available when buying points or subscriptions on your xbox 360, i dont see why it would work for me and not for you unless you have billing violations associated with your account

Microsoft Office 2007 uninstaller - How to Force Uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 you Don't Want

At one point or another, this happens to every computer user in the world: You install   Microsoft Office 2007, find out that you don't like it, or need it, or that its plain useless for the task you wanted to use it for and you want to uninstall Microsoft Office 2007. So you open up the Windows Add/Remove tool, click the button to uninstall Microsoft Office 2007... and find out that you cannot uninstall the program. In this article I will try to explain how to force uninstall Microsoft Office 2007, that you cannot uninstall using the Windows Add/Remove tool. Before that, however, I will try to explain what happens during installation.

What you need to know to uninstall a program manually

There are several things that happen during the installation of a program.

First, of course, is the copying of files to the specified program folder (which is usually somewhere inside the Program Files folder). Also some files such as shared libraries (.dll files) can be copied into a folder inside Program Files called Common Files and some files such as drivers or shared libraries (again) are copied into the ‘WINDOWSSystem32' and ‘WINDOWSSystem32drivers' folders.

After that the installer makes some changes inside the windows registry. The windows registry is a unified place where all the settings for programs and for windows itself are stored. The installer can make changes inside the registry for several reasons. For example if a shared library needs to be registered. Or if certain types of files need to be associated with the program being installed, so that the user could open them (e.g. if you install Microsoft Word, then you will be able to open Microsoft Word documents). After this is done, a key is added to the windows registry in a place where the Windows Add/Remove tool looks for installed programs. During the installation all these operations are logged in a special file (e.g. setup.log), and the installation program usually puts that file inside the application's folder along with the uninstaller. When a user tries to remove Microsoft Office 2007 through the Add/Remove tool, windows looks for the registered uninstaller inside the registry, and executes it. The uninstaller goes through the log file and undoes all the changes done during installation. That is, it deletes all the files that have been copied, all the registry keys the installer created etc.

However, if there is no log file, or if there is no record of the changes made to the registry the uninstaller might fail to uninstall Microsoft Office 2007, and it will stay there untill it is removed by other means.

So if Microsoft Office 2007 won't uninstall, how do you perform a force uninstall?

Well, if you know how to work with the windows registry, you probably can perform a manual force uninstall.

Before I go into detail about how to do this manually, I'd like to say that this is pretty advanced stuff, and if you're not a power user, then perhaps you should consider using specialized software such as the Best Uninstall Tool which allows you to do this in just a few clicks.

If you are a power user, then let's continue. First, let's see how to remove the program from the list of installed programs. To do that you need to open the registry browser:

  1. Click Start and choose Run in the menu (If you're using Windows Vista then press Win+R on your keyboard).
  2. Type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. On the left side is the registry settings tree, use it to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall
  4. Inside that key you'll find a lot of keys that belong to different programs. Some are named after the program's name, others as a mix of numbers and letters that makes no sense. Look through each of them until you find one that has the key DisplayName (on the right) with your program's name in it.
  5. Notice the key UninstallString - this key points to the uninstall program, and the log file usually resides in the same folder as that program.
  6. If you delete the key in which you've found the DisplayName key with the value equal to your program's name, then your program won't appear on the Add/Remove programs list.

Some programs create new entries in the registry to store their configuration options, these entries can usually be found in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware or in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE - look for the program name or the name of the company that made the software. Don't delete Microsoft though - that contains Windows settings as well.

Next we have to find all the files that have been copied. Open the folder in which the uninstall program should be, and look for files which are named uninstal.log or setup.log or something similar. The list of files that have been installed is inside this file; you can open it in your notepad and find all of the files that have been copied onto your system. Delete the files and you'll get rid of the program almost fully.

Again, I'd like to stress that if you're new to the windows registry and all of this stuff, and if you don't feel like experimenting with your computer, then, again, please consider using either the Best Uninstall Tool or similar software to force uninstall  Microsoft Office 2007, I do not want to be responsible for breaking your computer.
