upgrading laptop for gaming?

i have got a thosiba l500-19x 4gb ram 2.1 ghz processor 1.5 gb video ram (what ever video ram is i do no know) windows 7 64 bit and i can play basic games like world of warcraft and older games but when i try play team fortress or overlord no go even with graphics all the way down and i am wondering if i can get a graphics card or a gaming card that i can plug into my laptop externally because my laptop aces all requirements to play games except graphics and processor could be better but im not looking for perfection and if i can get an external one how difficult would it be to get a new graphics instaled i konw some people that work in intel and microsoft that make and repair pcs so i could get it installed free but how much would it cost for 1 an external card or 2 a new card altogether thanks prices are imoirtant so please include if posibal any help is vey appreciated

This issue is not because of your graphics card or processor. Those are really really good specs for a laptop.
The issue is with Windows 7, the games probably aren't compatible with Windows 7 or at least 64-bit.
Not much you can do about that except downgrade to XP or vista.
