Recreate PowerPoint Chart from Picture

Please kindly note this guide is for Microsoft Office 2003 only. For Microsoft Office 2007 user you must first create the chart in version 2003 and use "editing existing" feature while formatting the chart in Microsoft Office 2007.

Convert a chart from picture could be a quick task since in most cases we can recreate the chart easily by using data labels on the picture. But what if no labels are available? By using the following method, we can convert a picture into editable column or line graph object without estimation while keeping it accurate. Let's get started:

* Right click on the picture in PowerPoint, select "Save as Picture" and save it as any image file

* Fill in category labels in Excel with dummy data

* Highlight data and select "Chart Wizard" to create a column chart

* Make sure the "Plot Area" and "Chart Area" background color is set to none

* Double click on "Chart Area"

* Within "Patterns" tab select "Fill in Effects" on lower right

* Go to "Picture" tab then click on "Select Picture", and import the Jpeg image we just created

* As you can see the picture is now become background of the column chart

* Adjust category and value axis, make them align with axises of the picture

* If necessary, crop the picture in PowerPoint and export again until it fits perfectly

* Fix scale in value axis, data range must be the same as the picture

* Click on individual column and point your mouse to the top of it until a double-arrow icon appear, drag the mouse to adjust value and makes it match with the picture

* Paste data from excel into ppt chart object and you are all set

This tech support for Toshiba is just a click away!

Hello, I am Daniel, a home maker by choice and a proud mother of a 10-year-old child. My husband is a Marketing Manager in a reputed MNC and has to travel in and out of town for his business trips. Since my husband is mostly on his business trips, I have to handle most of the responsibilities back home. One of them was helping my son with his school projects. My son recently got a science project that required him to prepare some PowerPoint presentations. Since he was new to the whole process, I had to help him out with his presentation preparation.

I started by searching for PowerPoint tutorials on the Internet. I surfed various websites to get a fair idea on how to prepare an effective presentation. As it was a science project I had to include a number of drawings related to the topic. I kept on pasting these drawings from different tutorial sites on Microsoft Word. Finally after I had jotted down all the important points, I started preparing the PPT slides one after the other.

While doing so, I tried to copy-paste the drawings that I had saved in the Word document, but I was unable to do so. I tried pasting those figures several times, but failed. It was very disheartening. I was in no mood to redraw those figures on the PPT slides as it was very tiring and time-consuming.

I then started looking for the answer to my problem on the Internet. I specifically looked for blogs where people had given answers to problems regarding support for Toshiba laptops, Toshiba desktops, and Toshiba laptop drivers as I had the laptop of the same brand and thought that my laptop might not be functioning properly. I looked through various forums, but did not find any convincing answer.

While I was doing so, I came across a blog wherein the blogger had mentioned about a similar problem and how he resolved his issues by seeking help of a tech support firm that provided him support for Toshiba laptop. He had also mentioned that that particular tech firm provided support both through a toll free helpline number as well as through chat. I followed the link given on the website and entered the company's site. I clicked the 'chat now' option given on the company's home page. Soon one of their tech support expert responded to my chat message. He introduced himself as Nick. I explained him the problem that I was facing. Very patiently he listed to the whole problem and asked me to follow some simple steps.

Within no time I was able to paste all the figures on the PPT slides. My problem was solved. I was really thankful to him as he saved my lot of time. Nice experience I must say.
