Why does Word crash when I'm saving a large file?
I'm writing a large Microsoft Word 2003 document (600 pages so far, but only 18MBy, so not that large) and increasingly it's crashing and hanging my laptop when I save. The crashes disable Word, Task Manager, Windows, the soft restart control ... and even the off switch. The only cure found to date is to remove the power lead and take the battery pack out, and force a re-start. The auto-save files are empty, so it won't recover once re-started.
I've checked with the Microsoft web help and I'm nowhere near any of their file size limits (32MBy, excluding graphics), and I have plenty of spare disc space on my computer (over 5GBy).
Any ideas?
You might be writing to a bad section of your hard drive.
