3D Models and how to make them..Its Easy
Basically, a 3D model is a computer simulated wireframe demonstration of an object. You will need a computer and some software to make a 3D model. You can then output your 3D model by rendering it. A process that allows you to create a flat image of the model with textures and lighting added to the model. You can also output the model to a 3D printer that can laser cut the shape. on the other hand, you can output a fly-through (a preset video of the object, recorded from different angles). You will need a 3D engine to present the object in a virtual world.

3D Studio Max is one of the most widely-used off the shelf 3D animation programs by content creation professionals. It has strong modeling capabilities, a flexible plug-in architecture and a long heritage on the Microsoft Windows platform. It is mostly used by video game developers, TV commercial studios and architectural visualization studios. It is also used for movie effects and movie pre visualization.
Blender is a free software 3D animation program. It can be used for modeling, texturing, animating, rendering, compositing, and creating interactive 3D applications. It is available to install on all the most important computer platforms but it does have a gentle learning curve. However, it is ‘free'.
Bryce is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation program specializing in fractal landscapes. Can be run on Mac and PC. It use a uncommon interface but it's not too hard to get to grips with how everything works. Owned by DAZ who have just bought Carrara, a object modeling application. Expect some merging of the two.
Cinema 4D is a commercial cross platform high-end 3D graphic. It's popular with traditional artists and is easy to use for a high end product, its price is £586, so it's not cheap but it's used by the big boys in the film industry to make films like Polar Express.
Light wave is a computer graphics program for 3D modeling, rendering and animation. It is an Emmy Award winning application for it's use in many science fiction films (namely; Star Trek and Wars).
Maya is a high end 3D computer graphics and 3D modeling software package. It really is hi-end and has an Academy Award but costs $7000 for the unlimited license. It can be run under Mac, windows and Linux.
Sketch-up is a 3D modeling program with basic tools and easy to learn interface. It is available for free from Google and offers a great first step for beginners or small architectural firms.

hi guys
I have managed to design a model of the block of flats were i live and have saved and published it succesfully
however how do i :
1)export it into virtual earth so everyone who uses "virtual earth" will be able to see it,i live near liverpool,uk and you can clearly see the liver buildings in 3d so this is why i want people to see my area, and if theres a way i will then continue until i finish my road
2)alternatively is there a way to transfer the model i made(using the program "virtual earth 3dvia") into "google earth",infact this would be probally better as more people view google earth than virtual earth
any help will be much appreciated !

What is the 'Virtual SpaceTV 3D' all about?
The Kinect is Hacked to Produce 3D Holographic Images!
Oliver Kreylos, a computer scientist has found that when an Xbox Kinect is hooked up to his computer and some specialist software is downloaded, the Kinect can be used to create holographic video images.
Last week, Kreylos posted a video on YouTube that showed just this and it was an instant hit with a staggering 1.3 million people watching his amazing virtual reality and 3D graphics right before their eyes.
Kreylos is part of a movement of programmers and roboticists who enjoy getting consoles such as the Kinect to do amazing things that it just wasn't designed to do.
Initially, Microsoft made a few vague threats about working with law enforcement to prevent such tinkering, however they have soon changed their tune and have decided it's best to encourage the likes of Kreylos and his colleagues.
Craig Davidson, Senior Director at Xbox said "Anytime there is engagement and excitement around our technology, we see that as a good thing. It's naïve to think that any new technology that comes out won't have a group that tinkers with it."
Loren Johnson, an analyst of Digital Media and Consumer Electronics at Frost and Sullivan said "These adaptations could be a great benefit to their own bottom line. These adaptations could be a great benefit to their own bottom line."
Microsoft would probably be wise not to cut their noses of to spite their face, so to speak if these images are anything to go by.
